Green Design class tours the Aqua Tower

On September 17, the Green Design class was treated to a tour of the Aqua Tower and surrounding neighborhood by the Chicago Architectural Foundation. Aqua Tower was designed by Jeanne Gang, founder of Studio Gang Architects. This is the largest project ever awarded to an American firm headed by a woman.

The 86 story building contains retail & office spaces, rental apartments, condominiums, and the Radisson Blu hotel. The hotel lobby and bar areas displayed a wonderful use of light and materials.

The Aqua Tower is part of the Lakeshore East development located between Grant Park and the Chicago River, and east of Columbus Drive. In the center of the development is a hidden public park with beautiful landscaping and fountains.

Green Design is the future of the Interior Design industry. To reflect its importance, the Green Design I course will be required for students entering the program beginning in Fall 2013. For current students wanting to learn more about Green design, it will be available again for the Spring 2013 semester. In addition, the Green Design II course, a required class for the Green Certificate, will be on the Spring 2013 schedule.
