Every year, the Illinois Green Alliance organizes a tour of the latest green-built homes in Illinois. Ranging through all styles, from ultra modern to historical restoration, the tour focuses on the applications of LEED, WELL, and other environmentally friendly building practices. This is a great opportunity to see what’s new in green building, especially if you are planning on taking INTER 1125: Sustainable Design in the Fall 2018 semester as Pam McClelland is offering extra credit opportunities. Just attend the tours and write up a summary, with pictures. For more information on the class and the extra credit, please email her.
The price of the tours are $5 a house, or $20 for a passport that will allow you into any home through the entire weekend. Or, if you volunteer to staff a house for a three and a half hour shift, you can get your passport free, as well as a free t-shirt.
Many of the houses are in Chicago or the near suburbs, but there are a few in the Downers Grove, Lisle, and Oak Brook areas, if you don’t have a whole day to spend in the city.
This event is taking place during the last weekend in July (the 28th and the 29th) and you can purchase tickets here.
